Doctor Who: The Dark Flame (#42)

A thousand years ago, the evil Cult of the Dark Flame infiltrated every
star system in the galaxy. In the history books the Cult is legendary,
its despotic leader a terrible memory.
But for some the Dark Flame still burns. For some, its horrifying power
is the ultimate goal. All that is required is for the right people to be
in the wrong place and time.
An archaeologist and his robot are on the poisonous world of Marran
Alpha, where they will uncover a hideous relic. The Doctor and Ace are
on their way to the deep space research centre Orbos, where Professor
Bernice Summerfield is soon to start the countdown to universal Armageddon.

Episode One:
The Doctor and Lomar find Ace recovering from an attack with Benny
nowhere to be seen. Ace tells them Slyde hit her and pushed Benny into
the transmat. Lomar tells the Doctor that because of the surface that
means that if Bernice is down there, she's already dead...
Episode Two:
Ace tells Lomar that Sylde is a member of the Dark Flame cult and is
dangerous, wanting the skull back. Lomar seems interested in that, when
Slyde arrives. Lomar stops Ace escaping, telling her she also belongs
to the cult of the Dark Flame...
Episode Three:
Ace passes the skull to Benny and the Doctor tells her if she throws it
into the transmat it will destroy it, but a possessed Benny hesitates
before handing it to the Emissary, who thanks her kindly for giving him
the power of destruction...
Episode Four:
The Doctor believes he knows someone who can salvage Joseph's memory,
after all Benny might need him again someday. He tells her to be on her
way, before following her, pondering the fact that he loves this job...
This is novelist Trevor Baxendale's
first audio script. He wrote the Doctor Who novels The Janus
Conjunction, Coldheart, Eater Of Wasps and Fear Of The
Dark.
