What if...the Doctor never left Gallifrey?
Whatever happened to the Doctor?
He could be Gallifrey's favourite author. Or a bad-tempered recluse.
Or crossing the Alps with Hannibal. Or all three.
But an adventurer in Time and Space? Hardly...
The family would never approve of that... they had other plans for
the Doctor and the awesome power of the Time Lords.

The Doctor: 'You always badger me when I'm busy!'
Badger: 'Correct, I Badger, you busy.'
The Doctor: 'Do you think I cannot distinguish between
historic truth and dramatic licence?'
The Doctor: 'At least Earth has an ongoing history.
Everything stopped here centuries ago.'
Quences: 'That's for you to find out if you have the
gumption, which I doubt.'
The Doctor: 'Too much haste results in shoddy, half-baked
research and now the truth and your army are being sacrificed on
the altar of some cheap scientifically fictional romance.'
The Doctor: 'I've work to do, on possibility theory and
imagination. Two of the relative dimensions we've hardly begun
to explore!'
Susan: 'I'll make a difference. I'm going to open windows
and blow out the stale air! And if I can't open them, I shall
throw stones through them!'
The Doctor: 'Time's roses, scented with memory.'
Susan: 'Most people can only dream, Grandfather.
You've made it real.'
